Y'all! I made something that wasn't a quilt... and I love it! I've been wanting to make a duffle bag for each of my kids to take when they stay over with family, but was intimidated for the longest time. BUT, it wasn't hard at all and I'm ready to tackle another one and some coordinating pouches to go with them!
I followed the Holland Duffle Bag pattern by Center Street Quilts. It was very well written and easy to follow, highly recommend!
This bag is for my daughter, and since she's more vocal about what she likes, I had her come into the studio and show me her three favorite fabrics on the shelves. I was surprised with the one she picked but love how it turned out so much! She also picked the lining and I suggested the accent fabric.
Some of the supplies were new to me, like Soft and Stable, but it was easier to work with than I anticipated and it's such a cool product. It's a thin piece of foam so the bag keeps its shape even when empty thanks to it. For this pattern, you use it in the place of batting when you quilt your panels and the machine sews through it easily.
I also purchased zipper tape, which I was nervous about, but it was the same price as the two zippers I needed and now I can make up to 25 projects, perfect for all the pouches I want to make now ;) You can cut the zipper to size easily and simply thread the pull on, easy peasy.
Some of the other supplies needed include stabilizer for the tabs and webbing for the handles. I also opted to add a longer, removable strap so I added 1.5" gold d-rings to the tabs and purchased hardware for the adjustable strap. I still need to make that part but the bag is already being used and loved as is :)
Have you made a duffle bag before? I'm so excited to make another for my son! I also put together a little kit of the fabrics I used on this one if you want to make one too!
